Introduction
The metro stop for Dubai Mall is Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station, on the Red Line. It is station R25 on the RTA network map. After leaving the train, follow the signs for the Metro Link walkway to reach the mall; the platform is not inside the shopping centre.
For a first visit, plan the train journey and the walk as two parts of the trip. A station name containing “Dubai Mall” can make the entrance sound closer than it feels when you are carrying bags or travelling with children. Allow a comfortable walking margin, especially if you have a timed attraction booking.
Take the Red Line to the right station
Find Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall on the RTA metro station map. If you begin on the Green Line, change to the Red Line at an interchange shown on the current map, such as Union or BurJuman. Read the platform’s destination display before boarding, because the same platform area may serve trains going in different directions.
Your starting station determines the direction you need. Coming from the airport side means travelling towards Downtown Dubai; coming from the southern end means travelling back towards it. Check the map and platform display together rather than relying on a phrase such as “take the southbound train,” which can be less useful on a first visit.
Tap your nol card at the entry gate and again when leaving the station. If you are choosing a card or checking your budget, the Dubai metro zones and fares guide explains how the journey’s zones affect the fare. Keep enough balance for the return trip, not just the ride to the mall.
Follow the Metro Link into the mall
When you leave the paid station area, follow the Dubai Mall or Metro Link signs. Stay with the signed route through the connecting walkway instead of going down to the street simply because you can see the mall in the distance. An outdoor shortcut can turn a straightforward covered walk into road crossings and extra searching.
Dubai Mall’s own visitor information places the Metro Link connection at Level 2, near Fashion Catwalk. Remember that arrival point if someone is meeting you. Saying “I am at the metro entrance on Level 2” is more useful than agreeing to meet at an unnamed main entrance in such a large mall.

Walking time varies with your pace, crowds and the use of moving walkways. Treat it as a proper walk and leave extra time for finding the shop, restaurant or attraction after entering. A train arriving shortly before your booking does not mean you will reach the attraction’s check-in desk at the same time.
For strollers or limited mobility, follow the signed lift and accessible routes and allow for pauses. If a lift or walkway is unavailable, ask station or mall staff for the current accessible alternative. Do not assume that a route which is comfortable for a brisk adult walk will suit everyone in your group.
Separate train hours from mall hours
Train operation, mall trading hours and individual attractions are different schedules. Check RTA’s current metro timetable for your travel date and Dubai Mall’s visitor services for arrival information. A restaurant serving late does not guarantee that your return train will still be available.
| Part of the visit | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Train journey | Operating day, direction and last usable departure |
| Walkway and entrance | Signed access and any temporary closure |
| Mall visit | The relevant shop or restaurant’s hours |
| Timed attraction | Check-in time, entrance and booking conditions |
Do not use the network’s closing time as the exact last train from R25 towards your home station. The last usable departure depends on direction and any connection you still need. If your journey includes an interchange, plan to reach it while the connecting service is also running.
Plan the return before you start shopping
Save the name of your destination station and take a screenshot of your route while you have a good connection. If the group separates, agree on a recognisable meeting point and a departure time. Allow time to walk back through the mall and Metro Link, then pass the gates and find the platform.
Busy evenings can make that return walk slower. Carry only what you can manage comfortably, and consider another transport option if your shopping bags or group needs make the metro impractical. Ask the mall for its current taxi pick-up location rather than following a vehicle pin to an entrance on the wrong level.
If you miss the last suitable train, confirm an alternative through the mall or an official transport channel. Do not wait on the assumption that another train will appear because the station building is still lit. The Creek station guide is useful if your wider itinerary includes the Green Line, but Creek is not a substitute station for a direct Dubai Mall entrance.
Questions for a first visit
Is there a station inside Dubai Mall? The serving station is outside the mall and connected by the Metro Link. Include the walkway and the time inside the mall when planning a booking; the station name describes the destination it serves rather than a platform beside the shops.
Can a family use the metro for this trip? It can be a practical choice when everyone is comfortable with the train and walk. For a day involving younger children, combine the route with the Dubai family activity guide and build in a break rather than packing every hour with an attraction.
Final thoughts
Use R25 on the Red Line, follow the signed Metro Link and remember the Level 2 arrival point. A little extra walking time and an early check of the return service make the journey easier, particularly when shopping bags, children or a timed booking are part of the day.
