Introduction
Nol card balance transfer is available through RTA’s approved refund process for eligible cards and circumstances. The service can transfer an approved remaining balance to an alternative personal or registered nol card. It is a managed refund request, with verification and source-card blocking, rather than an instant payment to any card number.
Start by checking the card type, reason for the request and your alternative card. If you still need the source card for today’s commute, plan another valid travel option before submitting. A process that blocks the old card can affect your next journey while the request is being handled.
Transfer, top-up and refund are different tasks
Adding money to a card is a top-up. Moving an eligible remaining balance uses the applicable refund or replacement route. Requesting a correction for an overcharged journey is another service again. Choosing the right task helps avoid cancelling a useful card when you only meant to question one fare.
| Your aim | Service to check |
|---|---|
| Add new money | A supported nol top-up channel |
| Move eligible remaining balance | The appropriate balance refund or replacement service |
| Query one journey charge | The overcharge claim service |
| Recover a lost or damaged card’s balance | The applicable replacement and refund conditions |
Use the Blue personal-card guide to understand identity-linked card features, and review transaction history if the amount itself needs checking. Save the source Tag ID, current record and any top-up receipt before starting the process.
Request the eligible balance transfer
The RTA balance refund service explains the conditions for the selected card type. For a supported registered-card request, sign in through your RTA account or UAE Pass, open the refund service, enter the source Tag ID and choose the reason and transfer method offered.
In nol Pay, the published flow includes selecting the source card, choosing transfer to another nol card and identifying the destination through the supported card/account process. Confirm the receiving card carefully before submitting. A similar-looking card stored in the account can belong to a different travel product you did not intend to use.
Keep the request reference and approval messages. The published service time is four working days, and the source blocking request forms part of the process. A submitted application should not be treated as money already available on the alternative card.
Activate the approved amount on the receiving card
Follow the approval SMS and the current activation instructions. RTA lists supported online devices, including nol Pay and appropriate metro or parking readers, to make the approved transferred amount available. Check the receiving card’s balance after the instructed activation instead of repeatedly submitting another transfer request.
The published conditions give 180 days from approval to activate the transferred refund. Resolve the request while its messages and reference are still easy to find. If the destination balance does not reflect the approved amount after following the instructions, use that reference in an official status query.
For the selected registered-card refund service, transfer to an eligible alternative card is listed as free. Cash refund has separate charges and collection conditions. Compare the method actually offered for your card and circumstances rather than assuming a cash collection and card transfer follow identical rules.
Important limits before cancelling a card
An anonymous card, a bank-issued nol product and a personal card can have different recovery arrangements. Select the relevant service category and read its conditions. The ability to transfer a registered card’s balance should not be taken as proof that any lost anonymous card can be recovered without a record.
A travel pass also has its own refund conditions. Review the nol pass guide and the official refund terms before cancelling a card with an active product. The remaining cash balance and the remaining days of a used pass are not the same value, so do not calculate a guaranteed refund by multiplying unused days.
If the card is lost or damaged, check the required replacement or renewal step before the refund request. Keep your PIN for use only in the official service. Do not pay an unrelated person who claims to move the balance by taking your account login or card security details.
Final thoughts
Use the approved refund route, check the destination card and wait for the transfer approval and activation steps. Keep another valid travel option while the source card is being blocked. The request is complete when the approved amount is available on the intended receiving card.
