Introduction
A Blue nol card is a personal card issued in the holder’s name, with identity-linked features and access to eligible travel products. It is useful for regular Dubai travellers who want a personal card record and the relevant balance protection or concession category. The blue colour does not mean every holder receives cheaper fares.
RTA’s current standard personal-card price is AED 70, including AED 20 stored balance. The regular adult category pays ordinary fares, while approved students, eligible seniors and People of Determination have category-specific benefits. Choose the category that actually applies to the holder rather than selecting one for its lower price.
Main benefits and category differences
The personal card is linked to the holder’s identity and offers features such as secure balance, eligible travel-pass loading and a higher supported balance limit. RTA lists a limit of up to AED 5,000 for the personal product. Use the official account and card-management service to review the card rather than treating it as an anonymous card shared among several people.
| Category | Important fare distinction |
|---|---|
| Regular adult | Standard fares; no automatic concession |
| Eligible student | Approved 50% concession on the stated eligible services |
| Eligible senior | Approved concession subject to the service’s conditions |
| People of Determination | Benefits depend on the approved category and required evidence |
The student card guide covers the current study and age requirements in more detail. Other categories have their own evidence and conditions, which should be checked through RTA. A Blue card owned by a regular adult should not be expected to receive a student fare at a gate.
Price and product choices
The standard AED 70 amount includes an AED 50 application fee and AED 20 balance. RTA’s application service also lists different designs and products with additional fees. Review the chosen card type and final quotation, especially if you select a Gold Class personal card or an optional design.
Gold Class is a separate travel choice for eligible regular adult products. It allows use of the designated Metro and tram class at the corresponding premium fare; it does not mean that every bus ride becomes a double-price Gold service. Read the class and mode together before choosing a product.
For longer regular travel, compare the nol travel pass prices with your expected journeys. A personal card makes relevant pass options available, but the card purchase itself does not include a month of unlimited rides. Stored balance, card issuance and a travel pass are three different parts of the cost.
Apply through the official personal-card service
Open RTA’s personal nol application and use its current nol Pay or supported application instructions. Sign in through the appropriate UAE Pass process, select the holder and category, and provide the documents requested for that category.
Check the delivery address, contact details and product before submitting. Save the reference and follow the status messages. If the application needs verification, wait for the stated approval and payment instructions instead of creating another request because the card has not arrived immediately.
Use the holder’s own card after it is issued and keep the PIN confidential. An authorised guardian application has its own process for eligible minors. The personal card is not intended to be passed between family members so each person can use the same concession.
Loss, replacement and expiry
If the card is lost, use RTA’s official lost-card or replacement service promptly. The personal record helps with the supported protection and replacement process, but it does not mean every loss results in an instant transfer without an application. Keep the card reference and account details somewhere separate from the physical card.
The nol balance transfer guide explains approved refund and alternative-card options. Check the source and replacement-card conditions before starting, especially if you still need to travel that day. Some processes block the source card as part of the request, so keep another valid travel option ready.
Card validity and concession validity are also separate. RTA lists five-year personal-card validity, while student and senior concessions need annual renewal where eligibility continues. A card can remain usable while its expired concession results in standard fares, so check both dates in the account.
Final thoughts
Choose a Blue nol card for the personal features and category that suit the named holder. Confirm the actual price, separate any pass purchase from stored balance and monitor concession renewal. Keeping the account current is as useful as carrying the card on your daily journey.
